Dark Patterns are user interface design tactics that, intentionally or unintentionally, confuse, tire, inconvenience, trick, or otherwise influence users, which results in the user’s loss of time, data, and money.
This talk will discuss concrete examples of dark patterns, how these patterns are influenced by human psychology, some ways that dark patterns can have harmful effects for both users and businesses that use them, and suggestions on how to reduce their use when designing UI.
